A Face Lift For An Old Friend!

The challenge on Rainbow lady's Challenge blog this week was set by blogging and Forum friend Anne at Spirit of Creativity. The brief was to use an old favourite in a different way than normal. One of my most often used stamp ranges at the moment has to be the Magnolia range, in particular the image of Tilda from the back. I always use her with lots of patterned papers and make a girlie trendy card with her. This time I have made the card in the style of Michelle Zindorf. I love Michelle's style of work and have a dabble at it occasionally. Nothing ever looks as good but practice makes perfect as they say! Using a tutorial for one of Michelle's backgrounds I have made a 'Thinking of You' card using this often used image of Tilda, minus her handbag for the mood of the card.

A great challenge Ann!!

Many Thanks!

A huge thank you to Phree who has sent me a lovely EMail and has given me this award. I get many messages of encouragement and I really appreciate you taking the time to contact me! Phree is relatively new to Blogging - do take a look at her fab blog Ink Stain Survivor!

I should be awarding this to three amigo bloggers - a lot of you have this award already and I always find it so hard to choose out of everyone's fabulous blogs, so I have to say, that as usual, I have failed miserably to make my mind up and I therefore offer this award up to all of you inspirational crafters out there!

Thanks again Phree! Hope you are enjoying your blogging experience!

Octagonal Tilda!

Two challenges in one for this card. Arty Girlz 'Wing' challenge and Daring Card Makers 'It's All In The Shape'. I decided on an Octagonal shape for my card to fit the DCM challenge and used a Tilda image for the Arty Girlz challenge. Paper is Papermania, Tilda is coloured with pens, her top is paper pieced and her wings are glittered. Tilda is sat on a piece of Cuttlebug embossing and I have embellished with ribbon and a Flora Doodle.

Papertake Weekly Challenge - One For The Fellas!

I needed to make this card yesterday and realised it also fit in with the Papertake Weekly Challenge of 'One For The Fellas'. Backing paper is from the Cute Comoanion CD. I have used stamped images from a Rubbadubbadoo fishing stamp set and a printed image from the Joanna Sheen Cardmaker's Year CD. I have stamped in a dark green dye ink on top of the pattern paper and I have embossed another image from the set in gold over the top. The fish embellishment has been embossed in gold onto white card and mounted 3D. The greeting is from a Printworks set from Stamp Addicts.

Tanda Teaser and Stamp Something

Two challenges combined today. Last week's Tanda Teaser 'Flowers In The Round' and a challenge that I have only just stumbled upon Stamp Something's 'Faux' challenge. I have used stamps from the Tanda Stamp Far East Set 3 stamped onto card and coloured with pens, clear embossed and mounted onto some layered cuttlebug embossing. For the 'Faux' part of the second challenge I have used the Faux Silk technique using coloured tissue paper. You can find the Splitcoast instructions on the Faux Silk technique HERE.

Gothic Arch Challenge - Flourishes

Today I had a play with one of my Birthday presents - a set of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists. I decided to have a go at the Gothic Arch Challenge as I hadn't made one of these in quite some time. In real life the background is all shimmery and quite stunning - I am definitely a fan of these sprays.

For my Arch I have used Autumn Leaves flourish stamps and a Rubbadubbadoo text stamp. I have stamped over the Glimmer Mists with chalk inks. I have added some sticky backed gems to the flourishes and as a necklace on the 1920's image.

Tilda & Friends - Birds Of A Feather!

I am back from a week's Holiday in Devon feeling a little refreshed! Had a good time visiting my family before we went onto the Torbay area and had some time to chill out together. I haven't crafted for 8 or 9 days so I was itching to have a quick play once more important matters had been sorted. I had managed to buy some patterned papers while I was away from a couple of stores and had spent the time stroking those!

The Tilda & Friends challenge this week was called 'Birds Of A Feather'. When I first got this particular Tilda image it was one of my favourites and I used it all the time. I hadn't used it for a while so I enjoyed dusting her off. The image was coloured with water colours and the patterned papers are Papermania. Embellished with a prima flower, gem and lace paper.

A little taste of one of the other Stamp Addicts design work cards - this time using a set of stamps from Printworks called Flower Shop. Tilda & Co - Graffitti Edwin

The Tilda & Co Challenge today is to make your card in 'Black and White'. I had ordered a couple of the newer Shabby Chic range of Magnolia's and decided that 'Graffitti Edwin' was just the job for this! I printed off some brick wall patterned paper in black and white and added some white embossed graffitti to it. This is mounted over some Cuttlebug embossing and Edwin, coloured using black watercolour to vary the depth of shade, was mounted at the side. He looks like he is about to step out of the card and stroll off!!

Tanda Teaser - On The Case

For the Tanda Teaser this week Sheila set a task of casing one of her cards. I chose a card she recently posted with a shoe image stamped over text paper. I have used a different shoe image, colours and papers, but kept the card layout roughly the same, replacing the stitches with flowers. The technique for the shoe was a mixture of paper piecing and clear embossing like Sheila used. I hope I have completed the dare correctly - I understood that when you CASE a card you also change things on it and make it your own. The text paper has been made with a Rubbadubbadoo stamp and the Shoes are a favourite of mine from Joanna Sheen. The paper is from the new Joanna Sheen Floral Fantasy CD.

Cute Card Thursday - Gems and Jewels.

I have had a great couple of days. I spent Tuesday with hubby going out for an early Birthday meal due to working on the day. We went shopping and had a stroll afterwards. On the big day yesterday I received loads of crafting goodies! I had Glimmer mists, glimmer chips, glimmer screens, Several packets of Flora Doodles, an Elusive image flowers stamp plate and some patterned paper. Of course choccies and some pennies to choose my own crafting goodies! Plus when I got to work someone had taken the trouble to have a beautiful card made for me and I was given a bunch of flowers too! I won't tell you how old I am but I am going to start counting backwards next year!

The card I share above is for the Cute Card Thursday Challenge to use Gems and Jewels on your card. I have used a stamp from Oasis and coloured the image with Copic pens. She is mounted 3D over swiss dots embossing, patterend paper and matching card stock. I have used a Cuddly Buddly Greeting and popped this in a Flora Doodle flower. I have added little pink gems to the centres of the little flowers on the stamped image.

The Papertake Weekly Challenge was a quick Tutorial for an Accordian fold card. I had limited time today but I had a quick go using some images from the Joanna Sheen Fashion Boutique CD and some Cuttlebug embossing distressed with inks. I added some text to the bottom of each sectiona dn tied the whole thing together with ribbon. Above is the card closed.

My Time To Craft Challenge - Ribbons!

This week's My Time To Craft Challenge was 'Ribbons'. For the the Design Team we were also sent a package of bits and pieces from Crafty Individuals to make our cards with. In my envelope I received some 6 x 6 paper, some wonderful images of butterflies, flowers etc and a fab background rubber stamp. Yes a stamp!! I had started to get a panic on until I spotted that and grabbed it in my greedy little fingers. I decided to make a card using the background stamp(surprise, surpirse) and three of the images - one butterfly and two floral. I added some colour to one side of my base card using my Copic airbrush system and then partially stamped the background stamp over the top in black versafine. I mounted and layered my image toppers and popped them along the bottom of the card. Added a greeting and embellished with gems and a wide orange satin ribbon.

Come and join us in the challenge this week - one of you will be randomly selected to win a Spring Floral Tapestry Stamp Set from Castaway.

Some News and Some Card Samples

Well I have been itching to shout about this piece of news since the middle of last week! I am joining another Design Team! I am very proud to say that I will be joining the Stamp Addicts Design Team. Wooohoooo!!! I received my first package from Sarah on Friday and have been busy putting some samples together over the last couple of days.

When I get new stamps I like to study them before I use them and as ideas come into my head I draw quick sketches and jot things down. Of course when I actually get to using them I often go off on a tangent and things turn out completely different but I am better if I start off with some sort of structure!

I also like to put them through their paces - making cards just with the stamp/stamps in the set and whatever I have in my stash as regards papers and embellishments. I do like to try to create my own backgrounds too. Often our craft goodies are a considered purchase and I want to know I have something versatile. I like to know that I can make quick cards when needed and something a little more involved when I sit down to play!

With that in mind I set to work on the first of the three sets of stamps received - Printworks Clearly Defined Frames & Flourishes.

I began with a couple of very easy and quick cards:-

Simple stamping and layering, embellishing the layers with Swiss Dots cuttlebug embossing and adding a few gems.

For this card I have stamped onto Vellum with one of the swirl stamps and layered it over a piece of patterned paper. I have cut the vellum at around the half way mark, attaching to the paper with brads and covered the join with a ribbon trim. I have then added a topper made using one of the frame stamps and the xoxoxo text stamps.

For this card I have used one of the stamps to make a piece of backing paper, stamping randomly and at different angles maing sure to go off the edge of the paper as I stamp. This has been layered up with coloured card, the bottom piece has been popped through a paper crimper. For th topper on this I have used another of the frame stamps and the Hello text stamp, layered up and mounted 3D over the background. Embellished with satin ribbon and prima flowers.

All of these cards were quick and easy to make using basic supplies.

For this card I have used the Hello text stamp to creat a background strip, embellished it with ribbon and mounted over a base card that I had already preapered with the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug embossing. The topper has been created by stamping a flourish stamp onto white card using Versamark. This has been embossed with white embossing powder. I have then taken my pink Marvy matchable and pressed some ink onto my craft sheet, misted the ink with a water spray and then swished my embossed sqare through the ink. Once dry, using the same marvy ink pad I ahve stamped a couple of the border stamps around the Flourish, trimmed and layered, mounting it 3D onto the card, finally embellishing with gems.

For my last card I decided to play with some strong colour and I reached for the Adirondack inks and sponges, using Butterscotch, Ginger and Espresso. First of all I sponged the whole piece of card with Butterscotch ink. I decided to use a faux layer technique and cut a square mask using decorative edged scissors. I placed this at an angle on my inked card and proceeded to add the other inks, making the card darker at the outer edge and around the masked layer. Once I was happy with the colour I took the mask off and stamped one of the Flourish stamps, with the Espresso ink pad, inside the masked are at the left hand side and along the bottom, using one of the Frames and a text stamp for a central greeting. All around the edge of the card I have selectively stamped a section of one of the Flourish stamps. Emellished with Primas, a Flora Doodle and a die cut heart that has been distressed with ink and stamped with the xoxoxo greeting before being mounted 3D with a metallic ribbon behind.

Well I thoroughly enjoyed playing with that set of stamps - they are very versatile, an exccellent quality and I still have a number of ideas running round in my head! I can see myself using them alongside a number of other stmaps I already have in my collection so definitely a big thumbs up for the Frames and Flourishes Set!

Do check out the other Printworks Clearly Defined stamp sets that Stamp Addicts stock and for those who don't know there is a blog keeping you up to date with news and ideas called The Purple Zone.

Tilda & Co - Decoupage!

The challenge this week on Tilda & Co was to 'Decoupage an image'. These little beauties are perfect for this and I went to town and made my six layered Tilda. Impossible to scan so I used my old camera to get an image. This is one of my newer Tildas that I had not used before - everytime I acquire more I have a new favourite! The image has been water coloured, papers are Personal Impressions, embellished with prima flowers, printed leaves and a heart paper doily.

Well one of the fab things that happened last week was that we were asked to stay on the Tilda & Co Design Team for a while (our 8 weeks were about up)! I was delighted about that as I do enjoy it so much!

My second bit of news is on it's way ........tomorrow!

Theme Thursday - Toys!

I have had some brilliant news this week and have been on cloud nine ever since. I have been grinning like a Cheshire cat and I will be able to share this with you soon!

The Theme Thursday challenge this week was 'Toys'. For my card I have used a Whipper Snapper image of a little girl cuddling a tiger toy. The image is coloured with a mixture of Copic pens and paint. The patterned papers are from the Cute Companion CD and the Greeting is from Kolette Hall. I have embellished with brads, a photo corner and satin ribbon. The ribbon is actually orange to match the paper but my scanner is picking it up as yellow. I will have to replace it with a photo when the light is right.

Di Hickman Template Challenge - 30th April

My first post today is a card made for the Di Hickman Template challenge this week. A very simple card I think the paper is DCWV - found them in a drawer from ages ago so I might be wrong! I have used Flora Doodle flowers and a birthday greeting mounted onto squares cut at an angle and layered onto some bronze pearlised card. Embellished with white organza ribbon and blue gems.
